Chester “Chuck” Leon Ramsey, 62 year old lifetime Checotah, resident passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was born on Wednesday, June 15, 1949 in Checotah to Wilson and Veneta (Ferguson) Ramsey. He grew up in Checotah and graduated from Checotah High School in 1967, he then attended Connor’s State College for two years. Chuck worked on pipeline construction in the western United States. On May 29, 1976 he married his best friend, Donna Hall, and together they shared 35 years of marriage. Chuck attended Oklahoma State University from 1977 to 1979 where he graduated with a vo-ag degree. After graduation he went to work for the USDA County Executive Director, moving to Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Chuck and his family moved back to Checotah in 1980 where he was a man of all trades, working for International Harvester, in sales, Peoples National Bank, as a clerk, Cross Telephone, as the office trouble shooter, he went back to work for the USDA until 1989, and worked in Haskell County as the County Executive Director. Chuck continued his education, returning to earn his degree in technology from Northeastern State University and a science degree at UCAT. He worked at the Oklahoma Farmers Union, as their first field representative, and he was the County Coordinator for the McIntosh County Extension. Chuck began teaching at Oktaha, Council Hill, Porum, Fort Gibson, at the time of his death he was the technology education director & teacher of Checotah Public Schools. He enjoyed automotive restoration and being outdoors, either with his horses, fishing or with his grandson. He loved his family and was extremely proud of his boys. “Mr. Ramsey” told many stories in the classroom about his sons; he talked about what was important to him. Chuck attended the Westside Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Ramsey and his brother, Chris Ramsey. Chuck is lovingly survived by his wife, Donna of the home; his two sons, Dustin Ramsey and his wife Erin, Jason Ramsey and his wife Asha; one grandson, Will Ramsey; his mother, Veneta Ramsey, other extended family, many students whose lives he touched, and a lifetime of friends. In honoring the life of Chuck, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Chester Ramsey Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Checotah Education Foundation, PO Box 44, Checotah OK, 74426 Attn: Donna Sharpe. Viewing and family visitation for Chuck, will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 5PM to 7PM, at Garrett Funeral Home. Funeral services for Chuck will be 2PM Thursday, February 2, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Checotah, with Reverend Joel Kirscher officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Howard Hobbs, Dana Watson, Stan Addy, Bill Cole, Mike Stidham, Randy Ramsey are serving as Casket Bearers.
