Shirley Winston Shirley Yvonne Winston, 75 year old Checotah resident, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in Crowley, Texas. She was born on Friday, August 28, 1936 in Texola, Oklahoma to Otto and Lorena Moon Barham. Shirley grew up all over the United States, and her family settled in Oklahoma City, where she received her education, graduating from Putnam City High School. After graduation, Shirley began working for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. On Wednesday, May 6, 1959 she married the love of her life, Kenneth Winston in Oklahoma City. While working for the Health Department, Shirley served as a Claims Processor for the Welfare Department retiring after 30 years of service. After her retirement, they moved to Checotah in the Brush Hill area. She was a devoted wife of 52 years, loving mother to four children, and a doting grandmother to eight grandchildren. Shirley was a member of Brush Hill Baptist Church for over 20 years and enjoyed reading and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Edward Barham. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Kenneth of the home; Children, Amy Sisk and her husband Steven of Burleson, TX, Tony Winston, Terry Winston and Kenneth D. Winston all of Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Sisk, Ashley Breshears, Connor Sisk, Alec Breshears, Bailee Winston, Alicia Beyers, Victoria Beyers & Crystal Vasquez; three Brothers, Larry Barham, Jerry Barham and his wife Sidney, Raymond Barham and his wife Carol; and one Sister-in-law, Sue Barham. In honoring the Life of Shirley, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Brush Hill Baptist Church.
