Obituary for Brett Dale Robertson

On October 27, 2018, Brett Dale Robertson passed away peacefully at home, in Eufaula, Oklahoma in the country where he most loved to be, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born September 21, 1966 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Doffies Dean Robertson and Eva Pauline Mangrum Robertson, who preceded him in death. Additionally, he was preceded in death by nephew Steven Robertson. The first thing most people think of when they think of Brett is the phenomenal lead guitarist that he was. Brett played with tons of bands over the years and everyone who heard him was immediately struck by his amazing talent. He was talented at literally everything he attempted, from building transmissions, to taxidermy, to barbering, to hand-making anything in this world he needed, including, at one time, a tooth. But Brett was so much more than his enormous talent. He was a loving, protective brother and uncle. Even with all the pain he suffered, he never complained, and he was always concerned with the illnesses and pain of those he loved, more so than he was his own. For him, the worst part of dying was knowing how devasted his loved ones were. He was courageous and tough and strong, right up to the very end. Brett had a special quality, some indefinable charisma that drew people to him instantly. He was brilliant and funny and genuine. He was the same person to everyone and didn’t put on airs or conform to impress or fit in. He was who he was, like him or not. He was happiest outdoors, in the country, fishing and hunting, or just taking walks and enjoying nature. (Although he seldom took walks without a gun or fishing rod in his hands) He was not materialistic, his needs and wants were pretty basic, but most definitely included coffee, lots and lots of coffee. He fought many difficult battles in his life and emerged a stronger, better man for having overcome all he did. This last battle was too much for him, but he fought as hard as he could, and he did it for those who loved him and weren’t ready to lose him. He’s at peace now, and his mom and dad have welcomed their baby boy back into their arms, though our arms are forever empty and will never again feel one of his wonderful, comforting, tight hugs. He left a legacy of unforgettable charm, bravery and talent. He’ll be missed beyond measure and those left behind are forever altered because they no longer have him in their lives. Brett is survived by ‘Boo’ Mitchell, his rock, his loving friend and the woman who took care of him to the end, sons Nathan Anders and John Robertson, grandsons James and Elijah, brother, Edward Robertson, sisters Janis Robertson of Stigler, Oklahoma, Sheri Clements, of Oklahoma City, Alice Clary of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ruth Zimmerman of Miami, Oklahoma, and husband Tom Zimmerman, Christi Hernandez of Norman, Oklahoma and husband Johnny Hernandez, and nephew Bryon Robertson of Atkins, Arkansas, all formerly of Moore, Oklahoma. He left behind 8 adoring nephews and nieces, many, many loving extended family members and a staggering multitude of caring friends, especially Nicki Alsabrook, Johnny Walker, Pan & Dennis Brorsen, Michael Bear Clair, Les Clift, April Seaton and Jon & Katie Lyle.
